Gostop

Alice told me these three men appear to be playing Gostop, a Korean card game. The fourth is sitting alone looking out over the water. There were several other groups of men gathered in close clusters nearby. Most were either playing the game, or watching others play. They all seemed to be very focused on what they were doing.

Apartments on the River

This is the river I usually run along. I took this picture on one of my days off last week.

Inside the Kangchon Train Station

The station was made of cement and most of the walls were covered with graffiti. I'm not sure if this was purposefully allowed to give the place some color but it was interesting to look at.

Kangchon Train Station

Alice and I took the train to Kangchon. I took this picture just outside of Kangchon's train station. The station is tucked into the base of a steep hill and runs along the bottom of this image.

Kangchon

Alice and I headed to Kangchon for a short trip yesterday. It was raining a bit when we arrived, but we were able to get outside and enjoy the cool air and countryside today. I took this picture early this morning.

Andrew in Hanbok

This Wednesday is Chuseok here in Korea. Chuseok is Korea's harvest festival and one of the most important holidays of the year. As such, most people are given most of the week off - I only had to go to school on Monday. With only one day of school this week, we decided to do fun activities for the kids, rather than forcing them to sit in classrooms all day. Part of those "fun activities" meant I had to wear Hanbok - traditional Korean clothes - all day. Here's a picture of me in the Hanbok. I think I look okay. Sorry about the image quality, it came from my cell phone camera.

Now that I have the rest of the week off, I'm going to do a little traveling and hopefully take a lot of pictures. I should have all new images up in a couple days.

Flashback: 18 February 2009

A few months after I came to Korea, my Mom and Dad came to visit. It was mid-February and the weather was very cold. On one of their first days here, I took my mother to Changdeokgung Palace where I took this picture.

This weekend, the first cool weather of Autumn came in. Up until now, it was been very hot since late spring. Needless to say, I was happy to see some cool weather arrive.

Yesterday, I went to the doctor and found out that the bronchopnuemonia that had been causing my cough was almost cleared up. Still, I came home early to try to get some rest. I ended up going through a lot of my old pictures and stopped on this one. It struck me that I took this around the time that my blogging frequency really started to drop off. I found myself thinking about all that has happened since I took this picture. I also found myself looking forward to the the cold weather and wondering what this winter will bring.

Maybe the picture didn't make me think about all that. But I did feel like putting up a winter shot, so, here it is!

My Street

I live on this street. The view is from my floor (the 4th floor) of my building.

Streetlight

I went for a quick walk to my corner store to buy a bottle of water a few minutes ago. I took this picture along the way.

Alice's Neighborhood

I took this picture with Alice earlier today. This is a street near her home where we spend a lot of time.

Faces

I found these faces painted on the side of a building in my neighborhood. I'm not sure what they mean, or why they're there. Any comments?

The Sky Over Anyang

I woke up the other morning, stuck my camera out the window, and took this shot. Now that my cough is starting to clear up, I am hoping to take a lot of new pictures in the near future.

Shades

I was recently a little bored and found myself playing with my compact camera and a pair of reflective aviators. This "self portrait" was one of the more interesting results.

In other news, sorry about the lack of recent posts. My cough has been sticking around longer than expected, and i haven't been spending much time at the computer. I promise to get pictures up with greater frequency soon, though!

A Temple in the Woods

Sorry for not posting yesterday. I've been a little under the weather. This temple is close to my school.

I also took this picture while I was walking in the woods.

Stairs in the Woods

As I've mentioned, I am now living in Anyang, South Korea. My job here is at a private kindergarten, which has me teaching English to six year olds. As you can imagine, this job can occasionally be a little stressful. On one of those stressful days, I decided to leave during my afternoon break and go for a walk in the woods - where I took this picture.
